Sorry for my rudeness. It just pisses me off when people underestimate the art of acting. It's something I have a lot of experience in.

Check out Michael Cain's Masterclass and you'll see what I mean.

I well understand that you hold a different view to me, but don't understand why you need use pejorative language.

""The art of screen acting is not dissimilar to being a great painter, musician footballer"

Probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on this site, and you call me an idiot?

Depends what you call a villain

I liked a movie called Road To Perdition, where he was at least close.

Bad guys are easier, so I hear, so credit to him.

Tom Hanks - Has a great range but I don't think he's played a villain type character? Could be wrong!

Not really sure he’d care one fuck what we think, living in his gated community, but he’s a very good actor, and is obviously offered and picks his parts well.

I would not go that far but I believe there is some truth in there. Actors are helped immeasurable by takes, good directing and editing.

Back in my university days I would go to a lot of local stage drama as I knew people in the scene. There were always these actors that would give incredible performances. But then I would see them in cheap Canadian tv (most is) or whatever and they were awful.

I think their could be a lot more great actors if there were more great roles, directors and budgets. The ones we know have struck it lucky and look good, not saying they don't have massive talent, just that so do a lot of people.

Re: Leonardo Di Caprio - A Great Actor?
I think there are two types of actors - Those that are unrecognisable as themselves and change appearance and dialect for roles immersing themselves fully like a Daniel Day Lewis or an actor that is great at what they do by just playing themselves like a Sean Connery playing an Irish Cop or a Portuguese immortal with a Scottish accent!! I think Di Caprio fits into the second category. Never really been a favourite but you can't really argue that he looked out of place in The Departed or The Revenant.

He does films that have that combo of intense dramatic roles that allow him to do what he does with bankability at the box office. No one can knock him for his success.

Re: Leonardo Di Caprio - A Great Actor?
Maybe we should give him more credit as it can't just be coincidence that his film choice and co cast has been excellent.

Re: Leonardo Di Caprio - A Great Actor?
The Revenant changed my opinion of him.

He was good in THE DEPARTED also... But it was a stellar cast.. He couldn't really go wrong.

A lot of his work is fuckin pony

My God, you're ignorant.

The art of screen acting is not dissimilar to being a great painter, musician footballer even. You can't fake it, how ever many takes you do.

The ""great" actors are usually established "stars" hamming it up and are employed so their names can sell the films to the punter are hired because they are brilliant at what they do.

Jesus, I can't believe that I've just wasted my time replying to this idiot.

Re: Leonardo Di Caprio - A Great Actor?
Film actors are the most over-rated people in the universe. Any silly fuck chosen by the filmakers can act in films. You have so many takes to get it right and they only film small segments at a time. All you need to do is look like the character and say the lines

Most of the people considered "great" actors are usually established "stars" hamming it up and are employed so their names can sell the films to the punters.

Many people from other disciplines turn to acting and do a reasonable job. Vinny Jones Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley OJ Simpson, Schwarzeneger, the Rock etc. etc. etc.
